GrandeLASH™ – MD Lash Enhancing Serum is, admittedly, one of those eyelash growth serums I used to scoff at the idea of trying. Years ago, GrandeLash serum had an active ingredient called Cloprostenol isopropyl ester, a prostaglandin. If “prostaglandin” sounds familiar, that’s because prostaglandins (bimatoprost) is the active ingredient in Latisse, the prescription eyelash growth serum proven to grow lashes in length by 25%, volume by 106%, and darkness by 18% (AllAboutVision). Although the mechanism of action of prostaglandins on eyelash growth isn’t officially known, experts I’ve spoken to believe that the decreased pressure in the eyeball allows for eyelashes to stay in the anagen, or growth phase, for longer.
That said, once GrandeLash took out their non-prescription prostaglandin a few years ago, I honestly wasn’t interested in trying the serum. I continued with regular eyelash extensions (and lots of mascara during lockdowns!). But, during one recent eyelash extension appointment, the tech mentioned to me that my eyelashes seemed sparse, and she recommended that I try GrandeLASH™ – MD Lash Enhancing Serum to help to grow back and “fill in” the missing lashes.
After two weeks of using the product, I had significant eyelash growth, enough to the point I got curious and canceled my next appointment for eyelash extensions (!). My lashes already seem longer and darker, and I am noticing new eyelash growth at the base of my lashes.
It seems that the new(ish) reformulated GrandeLASH™ – MD Lash Enhancing Serum works through a combination of amino acids like alanine, arginine, aspartic acid, glycine, histidine, and proline, and botanicals like Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate and Arctostaphylos Uva/URSI Leaf Extract. Amino acids alone have been proven to significantly improve eyelash growth; one study, in The Journal of Dermatology and Clinical Research, showed that eyelash growth increased by 3.7-5.1 mm after 12 weeks of use of an amino acid-rich serum once per day. Considering the average eyelash is only 7-13 mm long, that’s a potential increase of about 25-72%, in length alone. (For the record, in my personal experience, I would estimate about 25% growth in 3 weeks, but I didn’t measure.)
Probably the only thing I didn’t like about GrandeLASH™ – MD Lash Enhancing Serum was that I received one larger tube as “six-month supply,” whereas the website shows a picture of multiple tubes for a six-month supply. When I ordered the “six-month supply,” I thought from the picture that I would be receiving six tubes. And it’s not really the same to receive one larger tube rather than six smaller tubes; yes, the ounces of serum may technically be the same, but the formulation’s antioxidant potency and purity are likely to decrease with regular exposure to light, heat, air, and traces of residual makeup over the course of six months. Had I known it was a large tube meant to last six months, rather than six individual tubes, I would have just sprung for 2 smaller tubes for the cost.
That said, I am getting results from GrandeLASH™ – MD Lash Enhancing Serum, and I’m relieved that I don’t have to take the time to get eyelash extension refills every 2-3 weeks. I’ve since sprung for the Primer, Lengthening Mascara, and Thickening Mascara as well. I really like the product line, and I’m looking forward to seeing how long my lashes get over the course of the next 8-9 weeks! (I believe it takes 12 weeks to see full results.)
